hello! as part of trying (once again) to use dreamwidth more often, i'm finally making an intro post

who i am online: i'm sky, deepestbluesky on ao3, tumblr, and discord. i'm a fic writer, a podficcer, and a fanbinder/bookbinder. the pronouns i would prefer you to use unless you already know me are they/them (and honestly any pronouns are fine).

how i use this: i'm still trying to figure out how interactions on DW work, but if i've posted anything publicly, anyone is welcome to comment on it—including this post! i do have some more personal posts that are limited to access filters, and if you can see those, you are also welcome to interact with them. if you subscribe to me and/or grant me access, i'll definitely take a look at your journal, and i might or might not subscribe and grant access back!

some notes about content on this journal: i am sure i will talk about 18+ subjects sometimes and i'll try to appropriately mark those, but i think it is safer to assume that my journal is 18+ overall. i do sometimes talk about RPF, but i respect that not everyone enjoys that, so generally i'll keep any RPF discussion behind an access filter (if you're new here and we haven't interacted elsewhere, you can let me know if you would like to be included in this access filter but i will default assume most people don't). it's very unlikely that i'll crosspost things here from other websites i use, but very likely that i'll do inconsistent wrap-up posts, rec lists, and random thoughts. you're always welcome to tell me in a comment or via a message on a linked social media site if i've posted anything you think is objectionable or if you think you notice a mistake in my posts! (i don't care so much about typos in most posts, but i do care about things like misnaming authors or messing up links or weird html that makes a post unreadable)

things i like: i'm still into Shan He Ling/Tian Ya Ke/Qi Ye, and i've been into critical role for quite a while now. my quiet forever fandom is tamora pierce, especially emelan. i've been really into dc comics and especially batfamily and the young justice cartoon previously, and that hasn't really gone away, although i'm not very actively in that fandom at the moment. i'm really into stranger things again. sigh... i'm also into hockey again. i love books very much: i don't read as much as i used to, but i try to read books semi regularly all the same, and i also have many many opinions about beta reading and copyediting/proofreading. i have a lot of fondness for snakes and other reptiles/herps although i have no particular science background, i'm just a nerd. i have too many feelings about bruce springsteen, which might be one of my most quintessential american white people traits. feel free to talk to me about any of these things pretty much whenever!

HOW is it so universal that as soon as you are asked to or try to describe things you like, everything just leaps immediately out of your head!!! i'm tentatively testing out using small text like this as a pseudo tumblr tags section hehe

back in 2022, i got frustrated about how ao3 splits out fandoms on the list of what fandoms i've posted in before, and did my own slightly messy version of the fandoms list from my ao3 dashboard. i thought about just updating that post but decided it was more fun stats-wise to make a new one and have both. so! updated february 2026 version of my fandoms list on ao3. if the only works in a fandom are multivoices i did brief parts in, i just left them out because voiceteam has really exploded my number of fandoms lol.

Hello! This year, I’m going to be participating in the FTH craft bazaar by offering a typeset and handbound fanbinding of a fic or collection of fics up to 120k. I’ll default to a hardcover (case-bound) book in quarter-legal size (4.25in x 7in, or roughly 107mm x 177mm). if you’re interested in a different size or a different bookbinding technique that i’ve done before (see image!), we can talk about that! in general, i’m happy to chat about ideas you might have, especially if it has to do with ease of reading for you, but ultimately decisions will be made based on what i have access to and what i think will work best for the project. i’m willing pay for shipping up to $25 USD—if shipping will be higher than that, i’ll ask you to cover the extra cost.

What I'll Bind

Your own fanwork
Another author’s fanwork as long as the author gives permission or has a public blanket permission statement for transformative works. The bidder is responsible for obtaining permission for the story of their choice—if you need to get permission from the author, please do it in a public setting (AO3 comments, publicly answered Tumblr asks, etc.) where I can also see it. if you’re not sure how to look for this or what counts as blanket permission, i’m happy to help figure it out.
A fic or a collection of fic up to 120k words (I can be somewhat flexible with length, but since this has to do with how much I can physically fit in a book, not too flexible! as with everything else, feel free to ask ahead of time if you're not sure)
Any non-RPF fandom not associated with JK Rowling or Neil Gaiman (if you have questions, feel free to reach out to me ahead of time!)
I am willing to bind a wide range of content, but I won’t bind anything with an extensive depiction of on-page rape/noncon, or anything with significant age difference adult/child relationships, and I reserve the right to refuse to bind a specific fic for any reason. If the fic you want bound is rated E, you will need to confirm that you are 18 or older. (again, if you have questions, feel free to reach out ahead of time!)

How It Works

The auction will run until Friday, March 13 at 10pm Eastern time (02:00 March 14 UTC).
The minimum bid is $30 USD.
To enter the auction please fill out this google form.
You can check the current highest bid on this spreadsheet.
I will contact the winner by email within 24 hours of the end of the auction.
Upon winning the auction you must donate the amount specified on your bid directly to one of my listed nonprofits from the FTH options (Advocates for Trans Equality*, Disability Law United*, Gaza Soup Kitchen*, In Our Own Voice*, National Immigrant Justice Center*, Any/all Anti-poverty Direct Aid orgs).
You will have until Friday, March 20 to send me proof of your donation.
Once I have received proof of donation, I will email you to chat about the project and figure out details!
I will send the finished book by October 2026, and I’ll provide you with tracking info once it is available.

hello! This is a pronunciation guide for the Queen’s Thief book series, written by Megan Whalen Turner! It’s a pretty small fandom (I think it only graduated out of Yuletide eligibility last year) but a persistent one, and like some other SFF book series fandoms, perhaps disproportionately popular among podficcers. HOWEVER, there’s no pronunciation guide I can find. There ARE audiobooks, but that’s a pain in the ass to look through when you just need to know how to say some names for a podfic you are impulsively recording. As a completely hypothetical situation. That I have certainly never encountered.

Now, a note from me. [as i flourish my hands around to pull out a soapbox and stand on it] I have followed the pronunciations in the audiobooks for this guide, because that’s the source we have, and it’s presumably consistent with how some other people in fandom would be pronouncing these words and what they’d expect to hear. But I do have beef with the pronunciations, and this seems like a good place to air that particular beef. We all know that the setting of these books is fantasy Greece. Many of these names literally are or sound very much like Greek names and words. But let me tell you: I’m extremely new to learning Greek, like the most baby of beginners, and yet I feel pretty damn confident that there is very little Greek in any of this pronunciation. Obviously modern Greek is not ancient Greek, and like many other ancient versions of languages, there are debates about how it was pronounced, and I’m sure there are arguments to be made. But this is clearly being pronounced the way English says Greek names and words, and I hate it. Ειρήνη is a perfectly good Greek name! I don’t think the STRESS of Ambiades is even right, let alone the VOWELS!! And, okay, to be fair, some of this is the author’s usage of Greek and Latin style names next to each other (Relius and Teleus come to mind), but I’m just saying. If we take both into account, we also have to accept the crime against Latin that is the pronunciation of Sejanus!! So, if anyone wants to completely disregard all of my pronunciations in this post in favor of what would make sense for Greek, that would be a delight to me. [and then i climb back off of my soapbox]

The names and words in this are arranged alphabetically and descriptions are taken mostly from the character list at the end of Return of the Thief and the character list on the Queen’s Thief fandom wiki. So, BEWARE SPOILERS!!! Mostly for the early books, but if you know this fandom, you know how it goes, so, consider yourself warned.

sometimes i come into a rec list with a very specific idea, and the difficulty is just finding fics to fit. but other times, i am challeneged to make a rec list, and i have to think about what i have in my bookmarks that could be made into a collection! and that's what i've done. so, this is a multifandom rec list (fandoms included are Supernatural, Critical Role, DC Comics, MXTX books, and Stranger Things) highlighting fics that i think might be overlooked due to being rare pairs or being character study or gen fic that might be hard to find. i haven't written up stuff about each individual fic, but i'm always happy to ramble about them in the comments if you have specific ones you're interested in.

hi it's me back again with this wild clip from a jimmy fallon interview: "previously we played to a lot of young men, due to the homosexual undercurrents of my music—" so uh, thanks for that bruce. what do i do with the rest of my day now.

i finally listened to all of Because the Boss Belongs to Us, and can now say: it's great! highly recommend! the two hosts break down what they consider their criteria for someone to be a queer icon, and then walk through how they might apply or not to springsteen, including talking to many other queer fans, interrogating the idea of a queer icon in general, and discussing how queer people relate to celebrities. SEVERAL of the people already cited in this post make appearances, and the hosts have a whole episode sitting on a depression bench where they wonder if they even should be trying to make this project. excellent stuff.

ALSO: the podcast created this spotify playlist titled Queer Springsteen, which includes both covers of springsteen songs by queer artists and original springsteen songs that they feel are particularly queer. i don't vibe with all the covers but i think they're all interesting and i like the project a lot overall.

is there a podfic equivalent of a drabble? whatever!! one of the round 1 voiceteam challenges is to record a 500-1000 word snippet of a fic you absolutely adore but have never recorded for one reason or another. so, to fill that, i've recorded a small snippet from absolutely the dead middle of Breakaway, the fourth installement of the main Superstition hockey series. it absolutely won't make any sense without context, but i liked my recording quite a bit, so posting it here for posterity!

the main reason i've never recorded superstition is because it's VERY VERY LONG!!! but also the wonderful annapods has already recorded a lovely version of all of it as well <3 and, you know, there's a lot of french in it which i think i proved here (see: the blooper i cut out in which i tried to yolo the one tiny french phrase and immediately was like, no wait fuck, lemme see how google translate says it... yep i was wrong) is not my strong suit. but i do love this series very much, and both the 'no you fucked up that's his ACTUAL NAME' and the 'no chants YOU talked about it' scenes stick in my head quite a lot, so once i realized they're one after another, it seemed like the perfect little selection to record!

a post on tumblr made me think about what my favorite albums might be and THAT led to me relistening to some albums i love a lot yesterday and today. music good. also holy shit i love florence welch's voice so much. cosmic love still hits so hard.

i was going back and forth about lungs vs ceremonials but i think i gotta go with lungs as my florence album. it's just SO striking and left such an impression on me when i first heard it.

as i’ve mentioned eight hundred times, i got really into Stranger Things again over the last year, and i’ve read, conservatively, a metric shit-ton of fic about it. one of the things i’ve been really enjoying is the relative presence of long, plotty, canon-related fics. so this is a fic rec list for those! plenty of these are ship fics, and the shipping is heavily weighted towards steve/eddie, but not entirely, and my focus was more on ‘interesting plot’ than on romance. fic lengths range from 30k to over 200k. i cannot promise that the way i grouped these fics will make sense to you, but they make sense to me and hopefully they give you some idea of what kind of fics they all are!

it turns out that i have kept very poor track of what i've watched in previous years, so i'm gonna try and post here more often about things! i finished rewatching stranger things season 2 today.

and man... what a horribly uneven show!!! the writing is frequently bad on a plot/coherency/pacing level, they love to do things that make me go 'wait sorry i'm supposed to think WHAT about WHO doing WHAT NOW????', and i feel like it's one of the most thematically messy shows i've ever seen. AND ALSO i'm obsessed with all the characters, there are so many fascinating and fun and real feeling character interactions, and it is a show that knows how to give a climactic and EXTREMELY EMOTIONAL moment on cue at the BEST times.

what a mess <3

tbh i'm very excited to get to s3. i know it is Critically Disliked but i love it. if it gave me nothing else i would still love it for max and el.

i'm also still thinking about how i watched s4 and was like, man the metallica moment is so objectively Nonsense and yet also bc it is in this context it WORKS SO FUCKING WELL. thats what i mean about a climactic moment.

tron legacy is so aggressively a mediocre movie except: aesthetics, which are in every way unparalleled. that the relationship between kevin and sam is like... not horrible but also certainly not good. and the extremely sexy move to do All Of That with rinzler.

unsurprisingly the female character situation is DIRE and there's absolutely no people of color in significant roles at ALL and i would love to be like 'ah a product of its time' but that time was... 2010. so. fuck that.
