hello!
i've fallen hard into dc comics lately, and i want to have a list somewhere of all the comics i've read, so here goes. (i'm including some basic notes of each. also this is not in any order at all)
Batman: RIP (written by Grant Morrison)
-boy do i hate grant morrison. this was on a rec list for characters who literally didn't show up. i did not enjoy, but the art's pretty cool.
Batman: Under the Red Hood (written by Judd Winick)
-the Red Hood origin story both in and out of universe! the movie is better, but the book is fun. 'goodness gracious, i've been bamboozled!'
Teen Titans (2003, written by Geoff Johns) volumes 1 and 2
-actually really liked this, which i wasn't necessarily expecting. this is the tim/kon/cassie/bart/gar/kory/raven/vic teen titans line up. steph makes a cameo in vol2 which was unexpected and thrilling.
Batman: No Man's Land, volume 1
-again, was on a rec list for characters who didn't show up (yet. i gave up after volume 1.) and i'm fucking tired of stories that beat you over the head with the idea that most humans devolve into violence and selfishness and destruction when laws are removed.
Batman and Robin: Volume 1 - Batman Reborn (written by Grant Morrison)
-dick as batman and damian as robin for the first time. i liked some moments in the earlier part, but then it hit all my normal I Hate Grant Morrison talking points. also fuck professor pyg.
New Teen Titans, volume 1 (written by Marv Wolfman and George Perez)
-kind of Seinfeld Is Unfunny effect in that i found myself enjoying this but also a lot of the moments i liked are adapted in the teen titans cartoon and are better there. still fun. i love donna troy. this is the classic dick/donna/wally/raven/gar/kory/vic line up.
Titans: Book One - Together Forever (written by Judd Winick)
-can you guess i like the teen titans? the new teen titans team is older and get back together, plus roy who was surprisingly kind of lowkey my favorite. i had a good time with this.
52: Book 1
-it's interesting? it's also very long, but i'm interested. it's cool focusing on these random characters, also i'm very here for renee montoya and kate kane, so i guess i'm here for this book.
The Flash: Book 1 (1990, written by Mark Waid)
-a bit boring in a very What You Think Of When You Think Of Comic Books way, but still fun. wally west.
The Flash: Book 1 (2000, written by Geoff Johns)
-some of it was boring as shit, other parts were fun. wally west.
Teen Titans: Volume 1 - Damian Knows Best & Volume 2 - Rise of Aqualad (written by Benjamin Percy)
-oh damian. you're a fucking disaster but we love you anyway. these are okay. vol2 reintroduces the comics version of kaldur from YJ, so if you're into that, check it out. this is damian/gar/raven/other wally/kory(/jackson)
We Are Robin (written by Lee Bermejo)
-the art style in this is REALLY COOL but also made it hard for me to follow the action at some points. a fun book. the main introduction of duke thomas. neat idea too, although way wilder than i expected.
Robin War
-crossover event that happens in the middle of We Are Robin. if you like all four dude robins, probably check this out. unfortunately the teen titans bit of this crossover involved profession pyg so that sucks.
Red Hood and the Outlaws: Volume 1 - REDemption (written by Scott Lobdell)
-BAD TERRIBLE DO NOT RECOMMEND. i love jason and all but this book is not good.
Super Sons: Volume 1 - When I Grow Up (written by Peter Tomasi)
-so much fun! so cute! i can't wait to read more!
All-Star Superman (written by Grant Morrison)
-[wet fart noises] idk lots of people love this but i did not. i am not a grant morrison fan.
Superman: Secret Identity (written by Kurt Busiek)
-this is really touching and fun. highly recommend. it's an elseworlds superman tale.
Superman: Red Son (written by Mark Millar)
-ugh not that fun. have you read TDKR? do you know what people in about 2000 thought about soviet russia? cool you know what happens in this book. it's ok i guess.
Grayson: Volume 1 - Agents of Spyral (written by Tim Seeley and Tom King)
-james bond, but with dick grayson. it's kind of fun even if i feel like it doesn't make any sense. i'm mostly here for midnighter since i'm unlikely to read any of his series.
Nightwing: Volume 5 - The Hunt for Oracle
-boy i do not like the art in this nightwing run. like i REALLY don't like it. the story is okay. i'm more interested in the babs and dinah parts than dick tbh. also tim shows up, which was fun.
New Teen Titans: The Judas Contract (written by Marv Wolfman and George Perez)
-if you know the story, which you probably too (Terra), it's not going to be that exciting. but there's a fun scene of them hanging out at titans tower with donna and kory so i can forgive a lot.
Wonder Woman: volumes 1 and 2 (2003, written by Greg Rucka)
-i wasn't sure what i was going to think about this, but HOLY SHIT I LOVE IT!!!!! maybe one of my favorite comics i've read of all this list.
Batman: The Court of Owls (written by Scott Snyder)
-it's fun. i know maybe too much about the plot to really get into it, but it's a good bruce.
Gotham City Garage (written by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing)
-i just read this tonight, and it's WILD. it's basically reading fanfic, even moreso than most comics. mad max meets george orwell meets dc comics. i love that they focused on the women, and two choices in particular are Very Good.
